The Route Path:

NC-148 starts at an interchange with US 70 in the community of Falling Creek. The route heads northeast from here, passing over Banks School Road before passing by multiple small neighborhoods. NC-148 curves north, passing over Pauls Path Road, shortly before having an interchange with US 258.

The route heads east from here, losing its full freeway status at an intersection with Poole Road. NC-148 still continues east, before intersecting Hap Arnold Boulevard. After the intersection, the route curves northeast and reaches an intersection with Airport Road, which is the main access road to Kinston Regional Airport.

NC-148 continues northeast from the airport, reaching an intersection with Aerosystems Boulevard, followed by an interchange with NC-58. The route still heads northeast from here, shortly before passing over Hugo Road and curving east again.

Shortly after that, NC-148 crosses Stonyton Creek, continuing to pass through rural fields and woods. Eventually, the route curves northeast a little bit, passing over Ferrell Road and curving southeast. Shortly after, NC-148 reaches its eastern terminus at an interchange with NC-11 southwest of Grifton.
